Foundations for Soul in Surfers Paradise

The third highest residential tower in Australia required significant demands on the piled substructure.

Soul is a 77 storey apartment tower located in Surfers Paradise, that, on completion was Australia’s third highest residential building. MJ Civil provided pile design for the 44 large diameter bored piles. These piles were installed using a bentonite drilling fluid and constructed using high strength concrete, required to transfer the structural loads safely into the ground. Piles were installed up to 45m below working platform with pile diameters of 1500mm, 1800mm and 2200mm.

Due to the height of the Soul tower, it will be exposed to extremely high winds, causing very high tension and compression loads throughout the structure. This needed to be considered in the design of the piles that bear the loads of the super structure.
