A large scale excavation through reclaimed land adjacent to the harbour presented a significant level of complexity during the construction of a new commercial building with multi-level basements.

The selection of a diaphragm wall approach with the use of broad grabbing clamshells was required to excavate an 800 millimetre wide construction trench. During the works, an assortment of irregular objects of maritime usage, ranging from a ships anchor, to a host of timber jetty piles from a redundant wharf structure, were excavated more than 20 metres below the ground level.
